Gilded Cartonnage Mask

By Andy Flack

Linen, plaster and gilding AD 1-25. This mask covered the face of the mummy of a young man. It is a fusion of two traditions  – that of pharaonic Egypt and of the classical world. It combines a naturalist Greco- Roman style of depicting the hair and with more traditional depictions of Egyptian deities.
