Winkie the pigeon

February 1942. After the aircraft Winkie was in ditched in the North Sea, she flew more than 120 miles home to Broughty Ferry to raise the alarm. Because of her efforts all the crew were saved. Winkie received the Dickin Medal, the animal Victoria Cross, for her valour.
